Suffering-Daily Essence On JKrishnmurthy Teachings
A teacher comes to school carrying anger from home and beats a child harshly. A father, frustrated by problems at work, shouts at his child. Society laughs at a child, and that moment becomes one of the most painful memories of his life.
When that child grows up, what should he do with those memories that still hurt him? What should he do with the images from the past that continue to trouble him and spread pain through his life? Who should he blame? How long should he keep thinking about those events? How can he free himself from them?
Most of us spend our lives trying to change the past. We analyze old events again and again. We keep blaming the people connected to those memories, and in doing so we remain trapped in them.
The pictures we carry in our minds are only dead images of the past. They are not happening now. They have no real connection with this present moment.
Much of the suffering we experience exists in the darkness of memory. It continues because we remain attached to it. The moment we are no longer identified with a particular hurt, it loses its power over us. Its influence on the mind begins to fade.
This does not mean that the actions of parents, teachers, friends, or society were right. It simply means that people often act out of their own confusion, pain, and lack of understanding. In the same way, we continue to suffer because we remain trapped in the darkness of our memories.
To most people, these may sound like mere words. But anyone who has carefully observed even a single sorrow with complete attention knows that something begins to change immediately. The hold of that sorrow on the mind starts to weaken.
This act of seeing is a complete action in itself. If we truly wish to heal our suffering, we must look directly at the darkness within us that we have carried for years. It needs no struggle, no escape, and no endless analysis—only the light of deep attention.
And it is possible that through such understanding, a human being can become free from every form of psychological suffering in this very life.
